POTA Stakes claim for more port rail

PURCHASE OF SOUTHSPUR COMPLETED

Ports Logistics Operator P&O Trans Australia has today completed contracts to acquire the business of South Spur Rail Services from WA industrial services group Coote Industrial.

The acquisition adds further impetus to POTA's burgeoning regional and metropolitan rail services businesses that operate to and from key container Ports in NSW, VIC & SA while providing a platform for its expansion into the bulk/mining sectors throughout Australia.

Managing Director, Mr. Paul Digney said that the acquisition further cements POTA's place in the rail to port market as part of a strategy to substantially convert its traditional metropolitan road business to rail and to provide regional customers with vital services for their exports; a position widely supported by both Government and Industry throughout Australia.

"POTA are committed to servicing Ports through Rail. The combination of Port infrastructure, Rail terminal infrastructure and train operations puts us in a unique position to provide a suite of rail based solutions that are both cost effective and reliable." said Mr Digney.

The announcement follows the withdrawal of a number of rail operators from the port services space over recent months.

"We will work with other stakeholders, Governments, Stevedores and industry to help make rail the mode of choice to handle the majority of the port container transport task in the future," he said.

The announcement takes POTA's regional presence to 25 container services per week covering New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia; complimenting its 44 weekly services to & from Yennora in Sydney's metropolitan west.
